Squirrels. How Do You Cope?

As a lazy gardener who does little more that prune back once a year, I love the squirrels that nest in my beech tree. They can however be the bane to the lives of more fastidious or dedicated gardeners. Here many Guardian readers share their tips for discouraging these "furry terrorists". All manner of deterrents have been suggested, from shooting with air rifles or trapping (it is not illegal to shoot squirrels but it is illegal to release a trapped squirrel back into the wild) to chilli flakes sprinkled liberally around trees and prickly prunings or fake owls placed in the tree branches.
